Theatre of a shoe upon the tree was founded in 2001 by young artists working in the area of performing arts and it is constantly active mainly in the field of theatre performance. The themes and content of the performances are derived from the Greek tradition, their creative interpretation leads to the form of contemporary performances that apply both to children and adult audiences. Live music, interactive techniques that involve the audience and unique set design are some of the special characteristics of the team’s performances. “Theatre of a shoe upon the tree” had been using the space of Theatre Fournos for three years before moving to the space of Theatre of Neos Kosmos. This year was under the roof of Theatre Epi Kolono. Furthermore the group presented a series of radio broadcasts of folk fairytales as well as selections of literature texts in Melodia FM. The group is touring all year round playing in schools, various spaces in municipalities and villages in Greece as well as festivals abroad. In a place, nor very near nor very far from where we stand, the king was so selfish and absurd that commanded his people to burn all the books that were written before his birth. Why he did so? But of course out of vanity, so great was his vanity that he wanted everything to start from him! The king ruled this way for many years, with the people living in ignorance. Sometime though, there was a winter like no other winter time so far. There were no clouds in the sky there was no rain, not a single drop. The sun was burning, the fields had dried and the trees were dying day by day. The king decides to send a swallow to travel as far as it can and find the solution to the dryness problem. In its journey the swallow meets wise creatures of nature, who sing traditional songs that teach through their lyrics the secrets of how man can live in harmony with nature.
