AVISTA: At risen curtain. Everything takes place openly, before the eyes of the spectators. And such is our perspective in general. An open and clear position towards our audience, our companions, the theater, our own selves. We first worked together in 2007 for the presentation of K. Tzamiotis monologue “An extremely simple job”. The team then grew bigger, now including three actors, two musicians and an actress-costume designer. Dimitris Karabetsis and Dimitris Mavros, actors of classical and modern repertoire and Maria Katrive, experienced mostly in children’s drama, meet again in a street performance. In 2007 Francesca Vinassa and Nancy Kouvarakou, our musicians, created the street band “Trichimia” together with Maja Musi. In June 2009, they participated, as a duet, in the Athens Festival’s performance “Caravan – Music of the Streets: Musicians of the World”. They also compose and perform their own music. Cristina Mathea, actress and hand – made clothes designer, creator of “La Poupée”, chooses to present her creations in exhibitions – performances. This performance is for all of us a journey of vision.
ATHINA – STREETS – VISIONS
Our performance is a musical and theatrical happening, a journey through time and space. A junk dealer and two wandering musicians introduce the audience to the streets of the old Athens and tell stories of street professions that no longer exist. As a guide they have objects and clothing coming out of the junk dealer’s wheelbarrow. Songs of those days will be heard throughout the strolling and at every stop the stories of the weaver woman, the photographer, the shoe shiner, the tinker, the junk dealer, the wandering musician and the newspaper boy take place. In Athens of the 50s and 60s, such street professionals were many. After the whirlwind of World War II people were trying to regain their hope for life. Amongst them those street professionals who, although without means, were dreaming great dreams… Some may have fulfilled them, some not. Still their places are kept by others, as street professions never seize to exist. As the performance moves through the streets of Athina we’ll get the chance to know the old and meet the new ones. Knowledge of the past is always valuable in our course to the future. And nostalgia is always so sweet …
