Dear friends, The theatre speaks directly into our soul. At the municipality of Athens we spare no opportunities to bring it out and to make it a reality. For this reason, city of Athens entertains the 1st International Street Theatre Festival and gives to its residents a lively cultural adventure. The more culture is diffused, the more is blooming, and historical neighborhoods of Athens city are becoming an ideal stage set of theatre expression. In this way, Athens gives the “stage” in order to become an ideal cultural partner and at the same time to give an antidote to the misery of daily life. Simultaneously, our city enters powerfully in the internal maypole of the art of theatre and participates in the universal dialogue and deposes its puzzle about contemporary theatre. The theatre, according to Shakespeare, is the mirror in which the society sees its face. And I would complete that the theatre is the mirror in which the society sees the face that wished to have. With this in our heads I invite you all from 16th to 20th of October to become receivers and recipients of art and cultural messages, and to experience all together unrepeatable moments of inspiration and creation.
