CIRCUS KOUKOUBAYIAN

Manolis Karyotakis was born in Athens in 1975.  He is an equilibrist, clown and trickster, and since 2003 he performs in theater, dance, and circus shows.  Also he works as a scenographer, costume designer and set constructor in theater and film since 1997.  In 2005, he founded “Koukoubaian circus” with which he creates and performs street circus and theater shows.  “Koukoubaian circus” has travelled in numerous places in Greece, performing in squares and streets, developing its personal style which combines circus numbers with theatricality, through the incarnation of different characters, as well as the plainness and simplicity of a street performance with the transformation of public space during the show.  Furthermore, giving emphasis to grotesque and bouffonic elements along with cultivating the interactive relationship with the public, engaging it into energetic participation.  “Koukoubaian circus” has performed in Torrino International Street Theatre Festival (2008), in Buenos Aires International Convention of Street Theatre and Circus Artists (2008) and in Sziget Festival of Budapest (2009).

The Fu Man Chu show

Macarone is the technician, the clown, and ringmaster that starts the show, setting up doing acrobatic stunts, ballancing and jugling numbers, relating with the public and presenting the star of the show: The Chinese ropewalker named Fu Man Chu. Macarone will transform into Fu Man Chu who will now develop his own relationship with the public through his particular personality, while he impresses with his ropewalking abilities.
