”Group Equals One” is a group of people dealing with the question: What kind of theatre do we want to make? A theatre/space where we can actually talk, actually stare, actually laugh, actually remain silent. A theatre of events, where the audience plays an active role. The external reality, the history, is part of our theatre. So is the international theatrical scene, as the group is in constant collaboration with artists from abroad. The intention of the group is to create the requirements for things to happen initially on the theatrical stage and in extension in life. Its activities include two parallel subjects: the process of performances and the instruction of actors. The axis of the effort is the creation of events, that is, the quest of politics in art, in the sense of the relation, the real event. Our vocabulary is the political element, the citizen, the city in its function as a co-citizen, a co-player, a companion. Words of action and reaction rather, once in theatre all is a reaction to something, even silence. The group presented the performance Space Hamlet. Testing in 2009, an attempt of connecting Hamlet with the events of December and the request for configurating the artistic event jointly with the public, initially in closed space and then in open public spaces of the city. We want to discover things that will give us joy, we want to make theatre more necessary. Space Hamlet is a performance’s test, an open rehearsal. After last December’s events in Athens, which followed the murder of a 15 year old boy by a policeman in the centre of the city, we began to realize in a different and accurate way what Hamlet means by saying: “How weary, stale, flat, and unprofitable, seem to me all the uses of this world!” ASOMATON SQUARE 17/10,18/10 -18:00, 19/10 -19:00
