Oper(O) team is comprised of young professional opera singers and actors. The team also includes a conductor, a choreographer, a video artist and a theatre designer. Our goal is the study, preparation and production of opera performances, using a common working method amongst all team members. The mean to achieve this goal are the dynamics of the independent teams and singers who can adjust to different situations. Opera performances in open non conventional spaces, with an innovative fresh approach which give the opportunity to a wider audience to discover the world of opera, was one of the main goals of our team. Thus, during the summer of 2008 we performed Bizet’s opera, Carmen as a street opera at the Pyrgos village square in the Island of Tinos. In November of the same year we organized master classes open to the public at Bios (Piraios street) and in February at the Veaki superior theatre school. We also participated at the Pecha Kucha Athens vol.2 and in May performed Carmen at the studio Theatre of the American College of Greece which we will repeat in August and September 2009 at Kythira, Monemvasia and Athens. Carmen, is the new production of the Oper(O) team. A popular opera, known for its theme as well as for its music. Oper(O) team dedicated to Halevy’s libretto and Bizet’s music, discovers a new version which is based on the richness of feelings and the dramatical elements of the characters of the play. With a small, flexible team of singers and actors, the team unfolds the story of Carmen, surprising the audience with the innovative presentation of the play and the focus on the music. The Carmen of the Oper(O) team reverses the well known images of the expected / standard performances of this opera and creates a spectacle that aims to move and surprise the spectator.
